The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again failed to meet its tax collection target, with the shortfall widening to Rs. 683 billion during the first ten months of the current fiscal year.
Official sources informed ProPakistani that the revised tax collection target for July to April was set at Rs. 10,946 billion. During this period, the FBR managed to collect Rs. 10,263 billion.
In April alone, tax collection fell short by Rs. 73 billion. Against a monthly target of Rs. 1,029 billion, the FBR collected Rs. 956 billion.
Breakdown of April collections shows:
| Income tax | Rs. 446 Billion |
| Sales Tax | Rs. 320 Billion |
| Federal Excise Duty | Rs. 65 Billion |
| Customs Duty | Rs. 125 Billion |
The annual tax target was earlier set at Rs. 14,131 billion, which was later revised downward to Rs. 13,979 billion. Despite the revision, overall collections continue to lag behind expectations.
Sources said the persistent shortfall highlights ongoing pressure on revenue generation and weaker-than-expected tax inflows during the fiscal year.
