The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has responded to viral reports claiming that a so-called heat burst could hit parts of Punjab and raise temperatures by as much as 20 degrees Celsius within minutes.
In its clarification, the Met Office said no such advisory or warning has been issued by the department. It rejected the claims being circulated on social and electronic media, including reports suggesting that southern Punjab could witness a sudden spike in temperature within five to 10 minutes.
The viral message had claimed temperatures could jump from around 30°C to as high as 45°C or even 50°C during the night, while also warning of zero humidity, breathing problems and damage to plants. It further used terms such as El Niño to present the claim as scientifically backed.
However, the PMD said its forecasts, outlooks and alerts are issued only on the basis of verified and credible data. It stressed that no official statement has been released regarding such an extreme weather event.
The department warned that unverified reports of this nature can create unnecessary fear and confusion among the public, especially at a time when many areas are already dealing with rising temperatures.
Citizens have been advised to rely only on official weather updates and government-issued sources for information about changing weather conditions. The department also urged the public not to trust or spread unconfirmed claims circulating online.

Heat burst sounds a made up term but it is true pakistans cities are witnessing major heatwaves because of extremely poor and pathetic planning from govt.
There are concrete jungle societies being built and govt is devoting zero effort to building parks and green cover. Surface temperature of roads can shoot up to 60-70 degree Celsius even if ambient temperature is 48-50. Literally pakistans cities have become unlivable
While some comments are valid. But, we must not blame the Govt for our own wrong doings. Nowadays people don’t plant trees inside their courtyards & lawns. They tend to grow only grass, flowers and shrubs. Moreover, almost all of tge land is used up for construction. At policy level, Govt should ban parking of vehicles on public spaces and undertake extensive plantation in urban areas as well as along all roads. Beijing model can be adopted to resolve tge issue in its entiriety.
Well, we can’t blame everything on govt brother. Look at the public’s behavior towards environment and immediate surroundings. Look at our own house plans, and their feasibility in terms of different weathers. We have no proper ventilation, windows and vents in our homes. We are increasingly relying on ACs and heaters. Much can be done from the public side.
Even if that heat Burt is a made up story. People in Pakistan are facing an extreme weather.
Waziristan used to be a cold place in summers, now forests are cut down which will change Waziristan weather and could make it hot as other places. People are so reckless in our area that they don’t even wanna know what trees do for our environment. The government should strictly ban cutting trees in these areas.
