Classic Halo Games Reportedly Getting Unreal Engine 5 Remakes

Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are reportedly in early development at Halo Studios, according to a report from leaker RebsGaming.

The report states that both projects are being developed using Unreal Engine 5, similar to the remake of the original Halo game.

Development Status

The information builds on a previous claim from a former Halo Studios developer and is supported by two additional sources.

One source reportedly verified that the remake projects will continue regardless of how well the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved performs. Another source also confirmed that the remakes are in early development.

Campaign Evolved Details

According to the report, Campaign Evolved will include three prequel missions featuring Brutes.

These elements are said to be designed to connect with the planned Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes.

An unverified source claims the Brutes are based on Halo Reach concept art and will use weapons such as the Brute Plasma Rifle and the Spiker.

A new skull is also reportedly being developed that allows players to spawn Brutes in original campaign missions.

Additional Halo Projects

Beyond the remakes, the report indicates that Halo Studios is working on multiple projects.

These include a new multiplayer title, possibly the extraction shooter known as Project Eker, and a new mainline Halo game. The multiplayer project is believed to be an evolution of the previously rumored Project Tatanka.

Release Leak and Features

A recent leak suggests Halo: Campaign Evolved may release on July 28 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X, with early access available a few days earlier.

Microsoft has not confirmed this release date. Campaign Evolved is said to use Unreal Engine 5 alongside the Blam engine. Reported updates include rebuilt cinematics, improved animations, a remastered soundtrack, and re-recorded voice lines from the original cast.

Gameplay additions include nine extra weapons from later Halo titles, optional Sprint, vehicle hijacking, and expanded co-op support with a four-player Warthog setup. All original missions have also been rebuilt with improved level design and navigation.
