Ubisoft has reportedly removed around 50 developers from Assassin’s Creed Hexe as the company’s new leadership team reshapes the project. This could potentially put the upcoming title’s development in trouble.
The reported changes came last week, shortly after Ubisoft canceled an unannounced project known internally as Alterra.
Developers Reassigned
According to reports, around 50 Hexe developers were moved to Ubisoft’s Interproject team. The Interproject group is used for staff members who are not currently assigned to an active project.
Sources said developers in that unit are expected to secure another internal role within three months, or they could face redundancy.
Feature Removed
The report also said Jean Guesdon, who took oversight of the franchise earlier this year, decided to remove a planned cat companion feature from Hexe.
Instead, the game is said to take a more grounded approach to witchcraft.
The protagonist will reportedly use scientific knowledge of chemicals and similar tools, such as smoke bombs that appear supernatural to ordinary citizens.
Release Window May Change
At present, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is reportedly targeted for a June 2027 release.
Sources believe the recent staffing reduction may be part of an effort to control costs and could lead to the game shifting to a holiday 2027 launch window.
More AC Games Incoming
Ubisoft is also said to be developing several other entries in the franchise. These include Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a multiplayer title under the codename Invictus, and another remake.
