Iran’s naval forces on Monday launched missiles at a US Navy vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, while the US military has strongly denied any such incident occurred, reported Al Jazeera.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told Fars news agency that two missiles struck a US warship near Jask after it failed to respond to repeated warnings to stop its advance deeper into Hormuz.
The incident comes shortly after US President Donald Trump on Truth Social announced a naval operation named “Project Freedom” for escorting commercial and stranded vessels through the Iran-controlled chokepoint.
In a separate statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected the Iranian claim, saying no American naval vessels had been attacked in the region.
“US forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval security mission in the region,” CENTCOM said in a post on X, directly contradicting Iranian media reports.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has meanwhile stated that it is reviewing Washington’s response to its latest 14-point proposal aimed at de-escalating tensions.
President Trump had earlier dismissed Tehran’s proposal, calling it “unacceptable.”
