PCB Launches Major Recovery Drive Over Billions in Unpaid PSL Dues

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched a major recovery campaign against defaulters and issued notices to all concerned parties in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), warning them to clear outstanding payments within the given deadline or face termination of contracts.

According to details, the PCB had already started the recovery drive during the 11th edition of the PSL.

Sources revealed that billions of rupees remain unpaid by various stakeholders. After repeated reminders failed to produce results, PCB officials decided to take stricter action.

Recently, notices were sent to several entities, including early PSL franchises, clearly stating that contracts would be terminated if payments were not cleared by April 29. Following the notices, several franchises deposited their full dues.

At the same time, the franchises themselves are still waiting to receive around Rs. 400 million each related to the 10th edition of the PSL.

When officials were questioned about the unpaid amount owed to franchises, they responded that payment of franchise fees is mandatory under the agreement. Officials added, “How can we pay you until we receive payments from other stakeholders?”

In the past, the practice was that after partial payment of fees, the remaining amount would later be adjusted from the central revenue pool. However, a different approach has been adopted this time.

For the PSL 10, each franchise was supposed to receive Rs. 975 million as its share. However, a key stakeholder still owes the PCB Rs. 4.7 billion, with a major portion linked to PSL-related payments.

Sources said the stakeholder has been avoiding payment while citing financial losses, preventing the finalization of accounts.

Due to this issue, the PCB did not allow two TV channels to participate in bidding for the PSL 11 media rights. However, surprisingly, the new company that acquired the broadcasting rights later allowed those same channels to air the matches.
Learning from past experience, the PCB has now secured a bank guarantee from the new media rights holder, which can be cashed in case of non-payment.
