The Prime Minister’s Office has initiated the process for the appointment of Haroon Akhtar Khan as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.
According to an official notification dated May 7, 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed the desire that Haroon Akhtar, who is currently serving as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, be appointed as Adviser to the Prime Minister under Article 93 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.
The notification further states that the Cabinet Division has been advised to move a formal summary for approval by the President of Pakistan.
Haroon Akhtar has been playing a central role in the government’s industrial and manufacturing policy discussions, including matters related to privatization, industrial revival, electric vehicle policy, and trade facilitation.
In recent months, he has also participated in multiple meetings of the Economic Coordination Committee and policy consultations linked to industrial growth, investment promotion, and export competitiveness.
Haroon Akhtar is a senior politician, industrialist, and actuary who has previously served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue with the status of Federal Minister from 2015 to 2018. He has also served two terms as a Senator and was elected twice as a member of the Punjab Assembly.
