PM’s Advisor Blames Public for High Petrol and Diesel Prices

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Huzaifa Rehman has sparked controversy after blaming Friday’s petrol bomb on low tax compliance by the public.

Speaking about the latest fuel price adjustment with a private news channel, he commented that the public is not paying the required taxes so the government has collected the missing revenue through the petroleum levy instead.

The federal government on Friday approved a big increase in petrol and diesel prices for the coming seven days. Under the new decision sanctioned by Shehbaz Sharif, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs. 15 per litre, while petrol has increased by Rs. 14.92 per litre.

Following the hike, diesel will now cost Rs. 414.58 per litre, while petrol has reached Rs. 414.78 per litre across the country.

The latest increase adds further pressure on consumers already facing high transportation and living costs, as fuel prices directly influence inflation, freight charges, and everyday commodity prices.
