Karachi Launches Special Polio Booster Drive

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Monday inaugurated a special anti-polio campaign at the Lyari Football Stadium to protect nearly 2 million children across the city.

Under the campaign, children aged between four months and 10 years will receive booster doses through polio drops and jet injectors in different parts of Karachi.

Speaking to reporters, the mayor said the government is ensuring vaccine access for every child to eliminate polio and stressed that collective efforts are necessary to achieve a polio-free Karachi.

He said the anti-polio drive is being further strengthened throughout the city, including Lyari, to ensure that no child is left without protective vaccination.

Murtaza Wahab appealed to parents to make sure children up to five years of age receive polio drops and urged citizens not to believe negative propaganda regarding vaccines.

He stated that vaccines used in both government and private hospitals meet the same standards and noted that the World Health Organization and medical experts have declared the vaccine safe.

The mayor added that both he and Deputy Mayor Salman Murad had personally received booster doses to build public confidence in the vaccination campaign.

He urged citizens to cooperate fully with polio teams during the next 12 to 13 days to help make Pakistan permanently polio-free.

Health officials informed attendees that hundreds of mobile and fixed vaccination teams have been deployed across Karachi.

These teams will operate in residential areas, schools, hospitals, and community centers as part of the special booster dose campaign.
