An important bill aimed at providing legal protection to 140,000 street vendors in the province has been introduced in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday.
In this regard, Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam presented the Ehsaas Street Vendors Protection Bill 2026 in the assembly.
The Deputy Speaker referred the bill to the relevant standing committee for further consultation and sought a report within 15 days.
Under the bill, the rights of 140,000 street vendors across the province will receive formal legal protection, while any action against registered vendors without prior notice has been declared completely prohibited.
According to the proposed law, harassing street vendors, demanding bribes, and carrying out illegal actions against them will be considered serious offenses.
The bill also ensures the establishment of safe vending zones, clearly defined rights, and complete legal protection.
In addition, provisions have been included to provide street vendors with access to micro-finance, easy loans, insurance, and emergency support so that the working class can earn a dignified and secure livelihood.
