ITP Warns Against Surge of Fake Vehicle Document Renewal Scam

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued a cyber advisory warning citizens about the growing threat of cybercrime and online scams.

The advisory highlighted a recent scam involving a fake SMS claiming that expired vehicle documents had been detected. The message urged recipients to renew their documents through a suspicious link.

The advisory urges the public to stay alert against fake emails, fraudulent links, and malicious mobile applications targeting unsuspecting users. The ITP emphasized the importance of protecting personal information online by following basic cybersecurity practices and using strong passwords for social media accounts.

According to the advisory, citizens should avoid clicking on unknown links or downloading applications from untrusted sources. The police also warned against suspicious emails and messages that may contain deceptive links or requests to install harmful apps.

To improve online security, the ITP advised the public to download applications only from trusted official platforms such as the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The link, “https://policepakistan.help/traffic-police”, was identified by the ITP as fraudulent. The police warned citizens not to click on such links and confirmed that the message was part of a scam campaign.

The Islamabad Traffic Police also shared instructions for reporting suspicious activities and fraudulent communications.

Citizens who receive fake SMS messages, calls, or suspicious links have been advised to contact the Islamabad Police Helpline at 15.

The public was also encouraged to follow the official social media accounts of Islamabad Police on platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok to stay informed about official updates and security advisories.
