Doctors hired on daily wage and hourly pay contracts for district and tehsil hospitals in Punjab have reportedly not received salaries for the past three months, causing frustration among medical staff.
According to reports, the Punjab Health Department recruited around 1,400 medical officers and women medical officers through NTS tests and public recruitment campaigns to address shortages in hospitals.
However, despite the hiring drive and official claims, the newly recruited doctors are still waiting for their salaries months after joining duty.
Sources said several doctors have become disheartened and resigned from their positions due to continued delays in payments.
Affected doctors are reportedly visiting offices of the health and population departments repeatedly in an effort to secure their pending salaries.
The delay has raised concerns regarding staffing challenges and the retention of medical professionals in public hospitals across the province.
