LinkedIn Fires Nearly a Thousand Employees in Latest Tech Layoff Round

LinkedIn is reportedly laying off around 5% of its workforce, Reuters reported. The company has more than 17,500 full-time employees, meaning the cuts would affect about 875 workers.

A source told Reuters that LinkedIn was not directly citing artificial intelligence as the reason for the layoffs.

Teams Affected

According to a memo from new CEO Daniel Shapero obtained by Business Insider, LinkedIn is reducing spending in areas including marketing campaigns, vendor costs, customer events, and underused office space.

The memo said the layoffs affect workers across the company’s Global Business Organization, marketing, engineering, and product teams.

LinkedIn is also reportedly closing an office in Graz, Austria, as part of the reorganization.

Company Response

A LinkedIn spokesperson told Business Insider that the company made organizational changes as part of regular business planning to position itself for future success.

In the memo, Shapero said LinkedIn must focus on priorities with the broadest impact and highest return on investment.

He also said the company needs to work with more agile teams and shift investments toward areas such as infrastructure while operating more profitably.

The latest layoffs come weeks after parent company Microsoft reportedly began offering voluntary buyouts to as much as 7% of its workforce.

Microsoft’s latest earnings report showed LinkedIn revenue grew 12% in the first three months of this year compared with the same period in 2025.
