Govt to Publicly Share Civil Servants’ Asset Details in Redacted Form

The government has decided to make IMF-mandated asset declarations of civil servants publicly accessible in redacted form, aiming to balance transparency with personal privacy.

The development was shared by the Establishment Division Secretary, Nabeel Awan, during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue on Thursday.

During the meeting, Awan informed lawmakers that the government had revised the Civil Servants Conduct Rules and was digitizing the asset declaration process through the Federal Board of Revenue’s platform.

Senator Mandviwalla welcomed the move and directed that the revised rules be shared with the committee for detailed examination and possible improvements. He also proposed amending the Election Act to require parliamentarians to submit asset declarations to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The committee, chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, also ordered a full investigation into two separate cases involving missing goods from Pakistan Customs custody: over 400 kilograms of silver and a portion of 2,000 seized bags of skimmed milk.

The committee separately took serious notice of alleged irregularities in the seizure and auction of 2,000 bags of skimmed milk confiscated by Customs Enforcement Karachi.

Officials told the panel that although 2,000 bags were reportedly seized, only 1,750 were mentioned in the FIR, leaving 250 bags unaccounted for. The committee directed the FBR to launch a thorough inquiry and submit its findings within one week.

Lawmakers also reviewed the case of missing silver that reportedly disappeared during transportation after being confiscated by Customs authorities.

Customs officials told the committee that initial findings suggested the incident may have been an inside job. They added that the Federal Investigation Agency had already begun an inquiry into the matter.

The case has also been referred to the interior sub-committee for further investigation.

In addition to these matters, the committee discussed Super Tax and its wider impact on business confidence and overall economic activity.
