Over 300 Divorce Cases Being Filed Daily in Islamabad

A sharp rise in divorce and khula cases has been reported in Islamabad, with lawyers and court sources pointing to unemployment and drug abuse as major factors behind the growing trend.

According to available details, family courts in the federal capital are now receiving more than 300 new cases daily, showing an increase in matrimonial disputes and maintenance-related litigation.

Sources said the number of khula and non-maintenance cases being filed has risen rapidly, with the total number of khula cases this year alone crossing 45,000.

On average, more than 9,000 new family cases are being registered every month in Islamabad.

Lawyers say social pressures, rising joblessness, and substance abuse are among the key reasons behind the worsening situation.

They warned that the increasing breakdown of marriages is also putting additional strain on the family court system, where case volumes are already climbing quickly.

The continued rise in filings has raised concerns over the growing burden on courts as well as the wider social impact of family disputes in the capital.
