IT Exports Hit 2nd Highest-Ever Level After Crossing $400 Million Again

Pakistan’s monthly IT exports have surged past the $400 million mark for the second time in April 2026.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), export receipts from IT and IT-enabled services rose to $423 million in April, marking the second-highest monthly total in the sector’s history.

The highest-ever monthly performance was recorded in December 2025 at $437 million.

Crossing the $400 million threshold in April reflects the strength and resilience of Pakistan’s IT sector, which has maintained steady growth despite global economic pressures and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Both the government and exporters should capitalize on emerging opportunities created by global disruptions and continue strengthening policy support for the IT industry, particularly in taxation relief and market expansion efforts.

During the July–April period of the 2025–26 fiscal year, the IT sector recorded strong growth, with total receipts reaching $3.81 billion compared to $3.14 billion in the same period last year, reflecting a 21% year-on-year increase.

IT exports include earnings from freelancers, call centers, and telecom-related services.

However, the sector is still expected to fall short of its annual target of $5 billion, likely settling closer to $4.5 billion by the end of the fiscal year.

Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), Ibrahim Amin, said freelancers are playing an increasingly important role in boosting IT export inflows, which are expected to cross the $1 billion mark this fiscal year.

He urged the government to address issues such as electricity load-shedding and slow internet speeds, stating that improved infrastructure is essential for higher productivity and stronger export growth.
