Operations of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service were severely affected after employees staged a protest at the Pothohar Station against forced dismissals and non-payment of salaries.
The demonstration caused disruptions across the transport network, leaving thousands of daily commuters facing difficulties.
Protesting workers suspended the Metro Bus Service and gathered on the metro track carrying placards and chanting slogans against the management. Employees claimed they had not received salaries for the past two months, adding that many workers were struggling to support their families due to the financial crisis.
The protesters alleged that the new company managing the service had violated contractual agreements by terminating long-serving employees without justification.
According to the workers, several dismissed staff members had been serving in the Metro Bus system for many years before losing their jobs.
Employees warned that the protest would continue until all pending salaries were paid and dismissed workers were reinstated. Protest leaders demanded immediate action from the authorities, saying workers had been left with no option but to halt operations in order to draw attention to their grievances.
The suspension of the Metro Bus Service created serious problems for passengers traveling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Commuters reported long delays and transport shortages as authorities attempted to manage the disruption caused by the ongoing protest.
