JPMorgan CEO Says AI Could Help Cure Some Cancers

JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon said artificial intelligence could help cure some cancers, reduce accidental deaths, and eventually shorten the workweek in developed countries.

The comment appeared in Dimon’s latest annual letter to shareholders, where he described AI as a major technological shift that could affect nearly every part of JPMorgan’s business and many other industries. He wrote that it was not an exaggeration to say AI will “cure some cancers,” create new materials, and make people live longer and safer lives.

Viral Claim Needs Context

Several social media posts summarized Dimon’s comment as saying AI will “cure cancer.”

However, Dimon’s original wording was more specific. He said AI could cure “some cancers,” not all cancers. That distinction matters because the statement was a long-term prediction, not an announcement of a medical breakthrough.

Dimon Calls AI a Transformational Shift

Dimon said AI’s adoption could move faster than earlier technologies, such as electricity or the internet.

He added that AI will affect “virtually every function, application, and process” inside JPMorgan and could have a major long-term impact on productivity. He also said AI is not a speculative bubble, although he warned that the final winners and losers in AI-related industries remain unclear.

Jobs Will Be Affected

Dimon also warned that AI will eliminate some jobs while improving others.

He said JPMorgan plans to support and redeploy affected workers as AI changes roles across the company. He also said AI will create new jobs, including in cybersecurity and AI itself, while other future roles are still difficult to predict.

Risks Remain a Concern

The JPMorgan CEO said AI will bring serious risks, including deepfakes, misinformation, and cybersecurity threats.

However, he argued that those risks can be managed if companies, regulators, and governments prepare in advance. He warned against two mistakes: overreacting after the first major AI incident or underreacting and failing to learn from problems.

Shorter Workweek Prediction

Dimon has also repeated his view that AI could eventually reduce the workweek in developed countries.

In a recent CBS interview, he said AI could make the world more productive and safer, and predicted that people may work about three and a half days a week within 30 years.

JPMorgan Pushes Ahead With AI

Dimon said JPMorgan will not ignore AI and will deploy it to improve services for customers and employees.

His comments show that one of the world’s largest banks sees AI not only as a workplace tool, but also as a wider force that could affect healthcare, science, safety, productivity, and employment.
