Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second and final Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, completing a historic 2-0 series whitewash.
It marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series whitewash at home.
Chasing a massive 437-run target, Pakistan was bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs, with Taijul Islam leading Bangladesh’s charge through a match-winning six-wicket haul.
Pakistan resumed day five with Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan at the crease. Following a brief rain delay, the pair added quick runs and took the visitors past the 350-run mark with a 54-run stand. However, Taijul broke the partnership by dismissing Sajid, who scored 28 off 36 balls with five boundaries.
Pakistan then suffered another major blow in the next over when Shoriful Islam removed Rizwan for a fighting 94 off 166 deliveries, including 10 fours.
Taijul wrapped up the innings soon after, dismissing Khurram Shahzad for a duck to seal Bangladesh’s memorable win.
The left-arm spinner finished with excellent figures of 6/120 in 34.2 overs. Nahid Rana claimed two wickets, while Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up one each.
Earlier on day four, Pakistan began their chase cautiously through Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal. Nahid Rana dismissed Fazal for six to end a 27-run opening stand, before Mehidy removed Azan for 21 as Pakistan slipped to 41-2.
Babar Azam and Shan Masood then steadied the innings and guided Pakistan past 100. However, Bangladesh regained control in the second session, with Nahid Rana and Taijul dismissing Babar, Saud Shakeel and Shan in quick succession.
Babar made 47 off 52 balls, Saud scored six, while Shan struck a composed 71 off 116 deliveries before falling to Taijul.
Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha later revived Pakistan’s chase with a crucial 134-run sixth-wicket partnership. Rizwan brought up his 14th Test half-century, while Salman registered his 12th first-class fifty in red-ball cricket.
Taijul once again provided the breakthrough by removing Salman for 71 off 102 balls, an innings that featured six fours and one six.
Hasan Ali was dismissed for a duck soon after, leaving Pakistan struggling at 304-7 in 83.2 overs.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh posted 278 in their first innings after recovering from 116-6. Litton Das starred with a brilliant 126 off 159 balls, hitting 16 fours and two sixes.
Khurram Shahzad led Pakistan’s bowling effort with 4/81, while Mohammad Abbas took three wickets, Hasan Ali claimed two, and Sajid Khan picked up one.
Pakistan was later bowled out for 232, handing Bangladesh a 46-run first-innings lead. Babar Azam top-scored with 68, while Sajid Khan added a quick 38.
Bangladesh then strengthened their position by scoring 390 in the second innings and setting Pakistan a daunting 437-run target. Mushfiqur Rahim led the way with a superb 137, supported by Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy.
Khurram Shahzad once again impressed with four wickets, while Sajid Khan took three. Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas shared the remaining scalps.
