A brief exchange on X between an Emirati academic and an Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) analyst has gone viral after a sharply worded response that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had surrendered to Iran.
Emirati academic Abdulkhaleq Abdulla posted that the UAE was taking “cautious and calculated steps” to reduce tensions with Iran.
In response, the analyst replied, “It is pronounced: capitulation.”
The remark was widely interpreted as a direct criticism of the UAE’s diplomatic approach, suggesting that its efforts to ease tensions with Iran amounted to surrender rather than strategic engagement.
The exchange quickly circulated online, drawing attention because it came not from an official political statement, but from a prominent analyst familiar with Israel’s business and media ecosystem.
Some X posters commented that the UAE has acted prematurely since the US-Iran war engulfed the region earlier this year.
“The Emirates are nothing but a glove in the hand of the occupying entity. It uses it according to need,” another user commented.
Update: A previous version of this story incorrectly named a France-based Israeli businessman, instead of the OSINT analyst with a similar name. The story has been updated to reflect the correct person.
