Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital on Thursday and was discharged to her residence afterward, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced.
“Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital, after which she has been shifted home,” Aurangzeb stated in a post on X, adding “Alhamdulillah”.
Despite undergoing the procedure, the chief minister remained actively involved in provincial governance.
On Eid day, she personally supervised security arrangements, cleanliness drives, and other administrative matters across Punjab directly from the hospital.
Aurangzeb confirmed that Maryam Nawaz is now recovering following the operation and continued to oversee provincial affairs even while under medical care.
Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also extended prayers for the chief minister’s complete recovery, health, and long life.
This is not the first time Maryam Nawaz has undergone surgery. In January 2023, she had throat surgery in Geneva, Switzerland, where doctors operated on two throat glands during a three-hour procedure.
