A reduction in fuel prices has prompted transporters to lower freight charges, with the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance announcing a 6 percent cut in goods transportation fares across the country.
The announcement was made by Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan, who said the decision followed the federal government’s reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
He said transport costs are directly linked to fuel prices and that the latest decrease in petroleum rates had created room for relief in the freight sector.
Awan stated that lower transportation charges could help ease the cost of moving goods and eventually contribute to reduced prices of everyday commodities.
He also highlighted challenges facing the transport industry, saying business activity had declined in recent months and many transporters had been forced to keep vehicles off the roads due to reduced demand.
The alliance chief urged the federal government to introduce further relief measures for transporters, including concessions in withholding tax and toll taxes, to support the sector’s recovery.
