Fuel Crisis Pushes Petrol Price to Rs. 500 Per Liter in Balochistan

Petrol and diesel prices have surged to as high as Rs. 500 per liter in parts of Balochistan as a worsening fuel shortage disrupts supplies across the province and leaves motorists struggling to secure fuel.

The crisis has intensified in several districts, including Nushki, Kharan, and Loralai, where reports indicate that petrol and diesel are being sold at around Rs. 500 per liter amid severe supply constraints.

In Quetta, fuel shortages have forced some filling stations to shut down temporarily, while those that remain operational are witnessing unusually high demand. Long queues of vehicles have formed at petrol stations across the city, causing inconvenience and frustration for residents.

Officials say the situation has been aggravated by disruptions in fuel availability and increased pressure on existing supplies. The shortage has become particularly acute in remote districts where transportation challenges have further constrained deliveries.

Petroleum Dealers Association President Qayamuddin Agha said fuel supplies from Shikarpur have been increased to help ease the shortage. He expressed hope that the situation would begin to normalize within the next couple of days as additional supplies reach affected areas.

Deputy Commissioner Quetta attributed the rush at fuel stations largely to the suspension of Iranian petrol supplies, which have historically played a significant role in meeting fuel demand in parts of Balochistan.

He said approximately 600,000 liters of petrol were supplied to filling stations in Quetta on Wednesday to help address shortages. The latest disruption highlights the province’s vulnerability to supply interruptions and the continued dependence of some areas on informal fuel supply channels.
