Traffic police in Murree have formed special squads to crack down on transporters charging excessive fares from tourists and other passengers during the busy travel season.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree Munir Ahmed Hashmi visited transport hubs and the Patriata Bazaar area, where he reviewed traffic arrangements, parking management and passenger facilities. During the visit, he directed officials to take strict action against overcharging and illegal parking.
According to traffic police, the newly formed squads will conduct surprise inspections at transport hubs, bus stands and other key locations to identify transporters charging fares above the prescribed rates.
The CTO said overcharging passengers would not be tolerated and directed transport operators to adhere to approved fare schedules and treat passengers appropriately.
Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi reported taking action against 1,191 vehicles and drivers for overloading passengers and 463 for charging excessive fares over the past month.
Traffic police have urged tourists and residents to report overcharging and other travel-related complaints so that prompt legal action can be taken.
