Famous Pop Star Urges CM Maryam Nawaz to Ban Short Dresses for Women

Singer Falak Shabir has come under fire on social media after urging Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to introduce a law banning short dresses in public places.

The singer made the appeal on his Instagram Stories while sharing a fact-check related to a viral claim about an alleged ban on vapes and pods in Punjab. He noted that the claim was false and that no such restriction had been announced by the provincial government.

Alongside that, however, he posted his own message to the chief minister, asking her to legislate against what he described as short dresses in bazaars, streets, and other public spaces.

In his post, Shabir said that as a father of two daughters, he was requesting Maryam Nawaz to make a law against people wearing short dresses in public, claiming that otherwise society would face cultural decline.

The statement quickly triggered criticism online, with many users accusing the singer of hypocrisy and selective morality.

Several social media users questioned why he was demanding restrictions on women’s clothing while remaining part of an entertainment industry that often faces criticism from conservative circles itself.

Others mocked the demand as an example of double standards, while some pointed to his overseas lifestyle and questioned why public dress in Pakistan appeared to be such a concern for him.

At the same time, some users supported his call and agreed that public dress should be regulated more strictly.
