Islamabad Police have begun disciplinary proceedings against officials who refused to perform duty in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with at least one constable already dismissed from service.
According to official documents, Constable Ahmad Ali, currently posted to Capital Patrols, was charged with inefficiency and misconduct after failing to comply with orders to report for election duty in AJK.
Police authorities had directed nominated officials to reach Police Lines Headquarters for deployment, but the constable allegedly refused to follow the orders despite being informed multiple times.
The disciplinary order said the official not only declined to proceed for the assigned duty but also remained absent and repeatedly disobeyed lawful instructions issued by senior officers. The document described his conduct as a serious breach of discipline, obedience, and chain of command, which are considered core obligations for police personnel.
Authorities said the constable’s refusal to perform the assigned duty, along with his absence without lawful justification, amounted to gross misconduct under departmental rules. The order added that the charges were fully supported by the office record.
Following the inquiry, Superintendent of Police Capital Patrols Awais Ali Khan imposed a major penalty of dismissal from service under the Punjab Police E&D Rules, 1975, which have been adopted by ICT Police.
Reports suggest that several other Islamabad Police officials also avoided reporting to Police Lines after learning they could be sent to AJK and GB for duty.
A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said refusal to carry out assigned duty leaves little room for leniency in a law enforcement setup.
