The City Traffic Police (CTP) Lahore has launched a strict crackdown on underage and unlicensed drivers, as well as unsafe motorcycle practices, including triple riding.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the campaign would be enforced with zero tolerance, particularly during holidays when traffic violations tend to increase. Drivers under the age of 18 found operating vehicles or motorcycles will face challans, vehicle impoundment and a written undertaking from their parents to prevent repeat offenses.
The CTO said motorists driving without a valid license will be fined Rs. 5,000 for cars and Rs. 2,000 for motorcycles. Learner permit holders will also not be allowed to drive without supervision.
Traffic police will also take action against triple riding on motorcycles, which officials described as a major road safety risk. Special checkpoints will be established near licensing centers to assist unlicensed riders in obtaining driving licenses.
Separately, Shirazi visited entry and exit checkpoints across Lahore to review the ongoing operation against heavy traffic violations. During an inspection at the Gajjumata checkpoint, he reviewed vehicle checking procedures and enforcement measures.
According to traffic police, commercial vehicles without valid driving licenses, fitness certificates or proper lighting systems are being denied entry into the city. Shirazi said only vehicles with complete legal documentation would be permitted to enter, adding that strict action would be taken against vehicles using high-beam lights or operating with defective or missing rear lights.
