Punjab Faces Severe Heatwave, Temperatures May Reach 48°C

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for June 8-12, warning that temperatures across Punjab could rise 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal levels.

According to the PDMA, temperatures in Upper Punjab are expected to range between 41°C and 44°C, while South Punjab could experience temperatures between 44°C and 48°C. Severe heat conditions are also forecast in Lahore and other districts.

Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert and ensure preventive measures in line with the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

PDMA Director General (DG) Umar Javed said unusually high temperatures are likely to persist even during nighttime, with the possibility of dust storms and strong winds.

The authority advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to stay hydrated. Special precautions have been recommended for children, women and senior citizens.

Farmers have been urged to take preventive measures to protect crops and livestock, while Rescue 1122 has been directed to remain prepared to respond to heatstroke and water shortage emergencies.
