Rs. 130 Million Bridge in Punjab Collapses Just Months After Completion

A newly constructed Bara Bridge and Vador Road project in Dera Ghazi Khan, built for Rs. 130 million, has collapsed only months after completion, after failing to withstand a minor flow in the Vador hill torrent following recent rainfall.

According to reports, the bridge and adjoining road gave way on June 4 after rain on June 3 triggered a low-level flow in the Vador Hill torrent, locally known as Rodh Kohi.

The collapse has cut off ground connectivity between several settlements, including Bela, Vador Zai, Dilana, Rakh Bela, Wahi Kangrani, and Kocha Wadani, disconnecting them from Dera Ghazi Khan city.

Residents said the destruction of the only viable route to the urban center has created serious difficulties in transportation and access to basic services. The partial washing away of the road has further worsened the situation, with alternative routes either inaccessible or unsafe.

Local communities have demanded the immediate restoration of the damaged infrastructure and the arrangement of alternative travel routes.

They also claimed that concerns over substandard construction materials had been raised months ago by local representatives, who had reportedly warned the administration about poor workmanship and questionable material quality. However, no corrective action was taken at the time.

Residents are now demanding a full investigation into alleged negligence and corruption, along with strict action against the contractor and officials responsible for the project.
