The Center for Disease Control (CDC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued an advisory urging healthcare authorities to strengthen preparedness and response measures to prevent and control heatstroke amid rising temperatures.
According to the advisory, Pakistan has experienced increasingly severe climate-related changes in recent years, including frequent heatwaves linked to global warming. The CDC warned that the intensity and impact of heatwaves continue to increase, raising the risk of illness and deaths associated with heatstroke.
The advisory called for immediate preventive measures and stressed the importance of public awareness to reduce heat-related health risks.
It recommended avoiding direct exposure to sunlight, staying hydrated and taking steps to prevent heatstroke complications. The CDC also advised the public to consume salty foods, wear hats and use light-colored, lightweight and loose-fitting clothing during hot and humid weather conditions.
