Camel’s Eyes Allegedly Gouged Out Over Village Dispute

A disturbing case of alleged animal cruelty has emerged from Tharparkar, where a camel was reportedly tortured and had its eyes gouged out during a dispute between residents.

The incident took place in Bhagal Rind village of Dahli tehsil on Monday night. The camel’s owner, Sarang Meghwar, alleged that Hamza, Mukhtiar, and others took away the animal, tied its legs, and removed its eyes.

Speaking to reporters during a protest outside the Chhachhro Press Club, Sarang said the accused had been pressuring him to compensate them for the death of a donkey and a goat. He was accompanied by male and female members of his family.

According to Sarang, the camel was his only remaining source of income after a fire had destroyed his house and belongings.

“This camel was my only asset helping me earn a livelihood for my family,” he said.

A family member said the accused had told them that compensation for the injured camel could only be discussed after they paid for the donkey and goat.

“We are poor. Now we do not have anything to arrange two meals a day,” she said, adding that the accused were influential individuals employed in government service.

The family also alleged that they had received threats for pursuing the case and appealed to authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure justice.

Police said a team had been dispatched to arrest the accused. However, an FIR had not been registered until Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG Mirpurkhas.
