The Karachi Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will feature a fleet of 256 electric buses and is expected to serve up to 300,000 passengers daily once operational.
According to project documents, the Yellow Line BRT is being developed with financial support from the World Bank and will be integrated into the Karachi Breeze Network to improve public transportation in the city.
The project includes a 21-kilometer dedicated corridor stretching from Dawood Chowrangi to Numaish, with a connection to the common corridor leading to Tower. The route will comprise 28 stations, including 22 at-grade stations and six underground stations.
Officials estimate the system will accommodate between 260,000 and 300,000 passengers each day, with annual ridership projected at nearly 78 million commuters.
The planned fleet will consist of 19 electric buses measuring 9 meters, 133 buses measuring 12 meters and 104 articulated buses measuring 18 meters. An additional reserve capacity of 8 percent has also been included to ensure smooth operations.
The transport network will operate through six direct routes and three feeder routes, improving access to the main corridor for passengers from surrounding areas.
Project documents state that buses will travel at average speeds of 21 to 26 kilometers per hour, significantly higher than current traffic speeds of less than 10 kilometers per hour on many city roads.
