The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 310 million for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s She Threads initiative aimed at promoting skills and economic empowerment among rural women in the textile sector.
The program is designed for women aged 18 to 45 from villages across Punjab who have at least a middle-level education. Under the scheme, participants will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 during training along with a transport allowance.
Officials said the initiative offers 10 training courses linked to the textile industry. These include industrial stitching machine operation, fabric quality inspection, fabric cutting, apparel planning and merchandising, apparel supervision, pattern making and cutting, pattern drafting and grading, quality control, garment finishing, packing, and garment waxing.
Textile training courses under the program are already being run in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad.
According to officials, around 2,500 women have completed these courses over the past two years, with 773 of them securing jobs immediately after finishing training.
At present, 1,150 women are undergoing textile training under the program, while another 1,350 are expected to be trained next year.
Maryam Nawaz said the government is committed to making every woman financially independent and empowered. She said skilled women could become a valuable national asset and added that the textile sector offers strong employment opportunities for trained female workers.
