The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH is likely to begin on June 17, as there are no chances of the moon being sighted on June 15.
In an advisory issued, the Met Office said the interval between the birth of the moon and sunset on June 15 will not be enough for crescent visibility. The moon is expected to be born at 7:54 a.m. on June 15, but it is unlikely to be visible by sunset on Zil Hajj 29.
The department said weather conditions are expected to remain clear in several parts of the country, but the crescent will still not be visible due to the short visibility window.
The PMD also shared moonset timings for different regions of Pakistan. According to the advisory, the moon is expected to set at 7:59 p.m. in Punjab, 8:55 p.m. in Sindh, 8:23 p.m. in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 8:34 p.m. in Balochistan.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, the moon will set at 8:00 p.m., while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, it will remain visible until 8:07 p.m.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has summoned a meeting in Lahore on June 15 for the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram moon. The final announcement regarding the beginning of the Islamic year will be made by the committee after receiving evidence from across Pakistan.
