Punjab to Replace Fuel-Powered Buses With Electric Buses

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has decided to replace fuel-powered buses with electric buses as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly public transportation.

Under the plan, the authority will shift its bus operations to an electric transport system aimed at reducing carbon emissions and providing cleaner and more modern travel facilities for commuters.

PMTA has invited applications from interested companies and firms, with the pre-qualification process scheduled to begin on July 16.

According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must have experience in supplying 12-meter fully electric buses. Companies will also be required to demonstrate experience in providing genuine spare parts, as well as repair and maintenance services for electric buses.

The selected firms will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of charging stations. They will also oversee driver training and operational arrangements for the buses.

Officials said the initiative is being undertaken by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority to support the development of a carbon-free and environmentally friendly public transport system in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

  • Hopefully, better sense will prevail and old bases will not be replaced as long as those useable.

  • Government should only provide roads and rules / regulation for the bus operation. Rest let the private companies invest and operate across Pakistan. Chances of corruption will be at its minimum level. Government should check the standard of the buses and its fares. Card system should be there where fares are fixed by the government this will stop over charging
