The Ring Road Police carried out a strict enforcement operation against pedestrian crossing violations and traffic offences over the past 24 hours, registering multiple cases and arresting several individuals, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, seven people were arrested for dangerously crossing the road and were shifted to the lock-up. In addition, cases were registered against four more individuals, who were also taken into custody for further legal action.
Authorities said 290 individuals were fined for crossing the road outside designated pedestrian bridges. The police also imposed fines of Rs5,000 each on 13 motorcyclists for violating traffic laws.
In a separate action, police impounded a coaster and a car for one-way violations and registered cases against the drivers.
Ring Road Police Commandant Safiullah Gondal said authorities are considering declaring the Ring Road a pedestrian crossing-free zone to reduce accidents.
He added that protecting public lives and property remains the top priority, and strict enforcement of traffic laws will continue.
Police officials further stated that such operations will continue to improve road discipline and reduce accidents on major highways.
