The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a public holiday across the province on the 1st of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH, subject to the sighting of the moon by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
According to a notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Administration Department, the holiday will be observed throughout the province on the first day of Muharram, pending the official moon sighting announcement.
The notification stated that the decision is conditional upon the declaration of the beginning of Muharram by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan.
Meanwhile, astronomical calculations suggest that Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH is likely to begin on Wednesday, June 17, as the new moon is not expected to be visible anywhere in Pakistan on the evening of June 15.
