PMD Predicts Five-Day Rain Spell Across Pakistan

According to Met office, a westerly wave is likely to approach upper parts of the country from 16th June and likely to persist till 20th June. Moist currents from Arabian sea are also likely to penetrate upper and central parts from 16th June.

Under the influence of this weather system:

Punjab/Islamabad: Scattered dust/windstorm & rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavyfalls/hailstorm) is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Noorputhal, Bhakkar, Layyah Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Kot Addu from 16th to 20th June with occasional gaps.

Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan: Scattered rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated heavyfalls/hailstorm) is expected in.Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 16th to 22nd June and Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from 18th to 22nd June with occasional gaps.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Scattered dust/windstorm & rain-thunderstorm (with few heavyfalls/hailstorm) is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from 16th to 20th June with occasional gaps.

Balochistan: Dust/windstorm & rain-thunderstorm (with few heavyfalls/hailstorm) is expected in north/northeastern parts (Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Quetta, Qillah Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Harnai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Khuzdar and Dera Bugti) from 16th to 20th June.

Sindh: Dust/windstorm & rain-thunderstorm is expected in upper Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad) from 16th to 20th June. Duststorm with light rain is also likely in Karachi and surroundings during the forecast period.

Possible Impacts and advises:

  • Strong windstorm/ hailstorm & lightning may damage weak structures (solar panels, electric poles, billboards etc.) during the forecast period.
  • Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from 16th to 21st June.
  • Heavy rains may cause Urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to the prevailing weather conditions.
  • Tourists and travelers are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travelling during the forecast period.
