The Motorway Police have banned uniformed personnel from seeking lifts from motorists on motorways and national highways, introducing a new administrative measure aimed at improving the image of Pakistan’s road network.
According to an official directive issued by DIG Motorway Imran Shahid, personnel from all departments, including toll plaza staff, are no longer allowed to stop vehicles and request rides under any circumstances.
The circular has also been shared with relevant institutions, including the Lahore Police, Rescue 1122, and other concerned departments.
The directive states that such practices negatively affect the reputation of the M-2 Motorway and other national highways while creating an unfavorable impression among local and international travelers.
Authorities emphasized that personnel stationed on motorways and highways should remain present only for official duties, patrolling, and law enforcement activities.
The Motorway Police warned that any violation of the new policy will result in strict departmental action.
The decision reflects the department’s efforts to maintain professionalism, strengthen public confidence, and enhance the travel experience on Pakistan’s major road networks.
