Boost Windows 11 Performance and Battery Life With This Secret Setting

Windows 11 has a hidden power management setting that can give users more control over how the operating system handles CPU boost behavior.

By default, these options are not available to regular users. However, when exposed through a registry change, Windows 11 can allow more CPU fine-tuning for better performance or improved efficiency.

Processor Performance Boost Mode

The hidden setting is called Processor Performance Boost Mode.

Modern CPUs can already boost their clock speeds automatically, but this setting gives users more control over how aggressively Windows manages that boost behavior.

According to Neowin, the option can be unlocked through a simple registry edit on supported systems.

Registry Change

Users can expose the setting by opening Windows Registry Editor and navigating to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7

The value of Attributes must then be changed from 1 to 2.

Once this is done, Windows reveals additional processor modes under Processor Power Management.

New CPU Modes

Normally, Windows shows only Minimum Processor State and Maximum Processor State under processor power settings.

After enabling Processor Performance Boost Mode, users can choose from several additional modes.

Setting Description
Disabled Disables the related P-state-based behavior. CPPC behavior is also disabled.
Enabled Enables the related P-state-based behavior. CPPC behavior is set to Efficient Enabled.
Aggressive Enables the related P-state-based behavior. CPPC behavior is set to Aggressive.
Efficient Enabled Sets the related P-state-based behavior to Efficient. CPPC behavior is set to Efficient Enabled.
Efficient Aggressive Sets the related P-state-based behavior to Efficient. CPPC behavior is set to Aggressive.
Aggressive At Guaranteed Windows calculates the desired extra performance above the guaranteed performance level and asks the processor to deliver that level.
Efficient Aggressive At Guaranteed Windows always asks the processor to deliver the highest possible performance above the guaranteed performance level.

Each Setting Explained

The different modes allow users to tune their CPU based on their needs. Aggressive mode prioritizes faster and more sustained boost behavior.

Aggressive at Guaranteed focuses on performance above the processor’s guaranteed frequency level.

Efficient Enabled is designed to make the system run more efficiently while still requesting extra performance when needed.

Efficient Aggressive aims to balance power efficiency and performance.

Efficient Aggressive At Guaranteed aims to maximize performance above the processor’s guaranteed frequency level while still trying to maintain better efficiency.
