Police have registered a case against the management of Atomic Energy Society Maraka and A&H Construction after a five-year-old boy died after falling into an open manhole in Lahore’s Sundar area.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the child’s father, Amir Jamil, who nominated both organizations in the case. Police registered the case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Hassan Aamir was playing in a street near his home and accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole.
Rescue teams reached the site after receiving information and launched an operation to recover the child. Hassan was pulled out of the manhole, but he could not be revived.
Rescue officials later handed over the body to the concerned police. Police took the body into custody and started legal proceedings, saying it would be returned to the family after the completion of necessary formalities.
Officials said further action would be taken in accordance with the law if the child’s heirs submitted a formal request or complaint.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over open manholes in residential areas and the threat they pose to public safety, especially for children.
