The Sindh government on Wednesday increased the minimum monthly wage to Rs. 43,000 while presenting a Rs. 3.562 trillion budget for 2026-27 with no new taxes imposed.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced a 7 percent raise in salaries and pensions.
The province expects a Rs. 36.9 billion deficit with total revenue projected at Rs. 3.525 trillion. Major allocations include Rs. 620 billion for education, over Rs. 393 billion for health, Rs. 222 billion for law and order, Rs. 155 billion for local governments, and Rs. 41 billion for agriculture, alongside significant development funding.
The government also introduced targeted relief measures, including reduced sales tax on educational support services, lower taxes for insurance-related sectors, and cuts in agricultural super tax rates while raising the exemption threshold.
A Rs. 13.2 billion social protection package will support welfare schemes for vulnerable groups, while development spending under the Annual Development Program is set at Rs. 400 billion.
Key infrastructure projects such as Karachi’s Yellow Line, Thar coal, municipal services, and emergency response systems also received allocations.
The chief minister said the budget prioritizes constitutional rights, economic stability, and public welfare without introducing any new tax burden.
