Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza paid a surprise visit to Multan on Wednesday and supervised inspections that led to the seizure and destruction of unsafe food products.
He also chaired a meeting at the Regional Directorate office to review administrative performance, ongoing operations, and the efficiency of food safety teams.
Syed Musa Raza, along with Additional Director Operations Asad Ullah, inspected three food production units in Basti Ali Wala, Gardezi Mor Adda Lar, and Khanewal Road.
According to the PFA spokesperson, officials found a fat-rendering unit producing and supplying loose cooking oil prepared from animal fat without a valid food licence or environmental registration.
The authority confiscated 12,000 litres of substandard oil and registered a case against the owner.
In another operation, the team recovered 18,000 kilograms of foul-smelling, fungus-infested, and hazardous pickles from a manufacturing facility operating in unhygienic conditions.
The contaminated stock was destroyed on the spot.
A sweets production unit was fined Rs. 100,000 for using substandard ingredients in the preparation of Sohan Halwa.
Syed Musa Raza said ensuring safe, quality and adulteration-free food for the public was the authority’s top priority.
“The crackdown against food adulteration and unhygienic production practices will continue across Punjab without discrimination. Food business operators must strictly comply with the law or face stringent legal action,” he concluded.
