In a landmark move for medical education, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the launch of Punjab’s first-ever PhD Nursing program to strengthen advanced healthcare research and education.
The Specialty Advisory Committee of UHS formally approved the curriculum for the programme, marking a significant shift toward higher academic standards within the nursing profession in Pakistan.
Sources confirmed that the university has allocated 20 seats for the inaugural batch of the PhD program. To ensure high academic quality, candidates must secure at least 75 percent marks in the mandatory entry test to qualify for admission.
UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore stated that the program aims to produce highly qualified nursing experts and researchers who can lead the healthcare sector.
He added that this initiative would play a crucial role in addressing the severe shortage of specialized nursing faculty across the country.
The university plans to release the official admission advertisement during the first week of July.
Experts believe that providing PhD-level education in nursing will not only improve clinical standards but also encourage evidence-based practices in hospitals and medical institutions across Punjab.
