Pakistan is holding discussions with Netflix and other major streaming platforms to bring more Pakistani content to international audiences, with the government aiming to secure greater opportunities for local creators and productions.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said the government was working to establish open and sustainable partnerships with global streaming services to increase the international visibility of Pakistani films and television dramas.
The initiative is intended to strengthen Pakistan’s entertainment industry while expanding the global reach of the country’s film and television productions.
Iqbal said Pakistani dramas and films were already receiving widespread recognition and appreciation around the world, making the country’s creative and cultural industry an important part of its export strategy under the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
He added that major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, are key gateways to global audiences. However, he said these platforms had been affected by regional politics, which had prevented Pakistani content from receiving the exposure it deserved.
According to the minister, the government is in discussions with Netflix and other international streaming platforms to review the existing regional framework.
“Our goal is clear: secure an equitable share of space and open sustainable partnership avenues for Pakistani creators,” Iqbal said.
