ATC Sentences Islamabad DIG to One Month in Jail

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Jawad Tariq to one month in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 for failing to submit the challan in a case related to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest held on October 4, 2024.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the order after expressing dissatisfaction over the continued delay in the submission of the investigation report despite repeated court notices.

During the proceedings, the court noted that Islamabad Police had repeatedly failed to submit the challan in the case, prompting the judge to take action against the senior police officer.

The court also observed that DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq did not appear in person despite being summoned. As a result, the judge sentenced the officer to one month imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000.

The case stems from a PTI protest held on October 4, 2024, following which a criminal case was registered against party leaders and supporters at Margalla Police Station in Islamabad.
