Ministry of Foreign Affairs Security Flaw Could Leak Sensitive Govt Records and Citizen Documents

A reported security vulnerability in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) document verification system could potentially expose sensitive government records to unauthorized access.

If exploited, the issue may allow confidential documents processed through the system to be viewed or accessed without permission, raising concerns about data security and privacy.

The concern first emerged after multiple users on social media claimed that the online verification system could be accessed in ways that bypass normal security protections. Some users also suggested that the issue may affect documents processed both inside Pakistan and from overseas, increasing concerns about the safety of sensitive records handled by the platform.

The reports have led to discussions among cybersecurity professionals, who urged that the issue be formally reported through official vulnerability reporting channels. National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) officials advised that the matter should go through proper disclosure procedures so it can be assessed and addressed correctly.

Some cybersecurity experts also pointed out that similar concerns may have been raised in the past, suggesting the problem could be linked to older system design or unresolved technical issues.

National CERT officials confirmed they are currently reviewing the situation, stating, “Yes, we are working on it.” They also said that the MOFA document verification process is under review and will be updated as part of efforts to improve security controls and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Cybersecurity experts emphasized the importance of quickly fixing security weaknesses once they are discovered. They also highlighted the need for transparent reporting systems and cooperation with independent researchers to better protect citizens’ data. According to experts, addressing both outside cyberattacks and internal security risks is essential for safeguarding government digital systems and maintaining public trust in online services.
