Private schools in Punjab have expressed concern over the delay in the release of the province’s academic calendar despite the start of the new academic year, urging the School Education Department to finalize and publish it without further delay.
School owners said a clear schedule for holidays, examinations, and academic activities is essential, particularly in light of changing weather conditions that can affect educational operations throughout the year.
They emphasized the need to ensure at least 210 teaching days annually and warned that frequent unannounced holidays disrupt learning, create uncertainty for schools and inconvenience parents.
According to stakeholders, the School Education Department had previously sought recommendations from private schools while drafting the academic calendar and reportedly agreed with many of the proposals. However, despite the passage of a year, the calendar has yet to be officially issued.
The delay has drawn criticism as Punjab’s education minister has repeatedly announced plans to introduce a comprehensive academic calendar, but no final document has been released so far.
Private educational institutions have called on the government to remove uncertainty in the education sector by immediately finalizing the academic calendar and providing schools with a predictable framework for the academic year.
