Shahnawaz Dahani is likely to replace Hasan Ali in Pakistan’s Test squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies and England as selectors move closer to finalizing the red-ball squad.
Pakistan’s red-ball players are currently taking part in an intensive training camp at the LCCA Ground, where selectors and team management are assessing players’ form and fitness ahead of the squad announcement.
A total of 22 players are in contention, with a 17-member squad expected to be finalized for the five-Test assignment against the West Indies and England.
According to reports, Hasan Ali is expected to miss selection and is also not part of the ongoing camp. Shahnawaz Dahani has emerged as one of the pacers under consideration and could be included in his place for the West Indies series.
Hasan Ali has been an experienced option for Pakistan in Test cricket, having played 27 matches and taken 88 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls. However, his likely exclusion comes as Pakistan look set to make notable changes from the squad that recently featured against Bangladesh.
Fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Noman Ali are also expected to miss out, while Mohammad Ali and Obaid Shah are among the fresh names being considered.
Shahnawaz Dahani has already represented Pakistan in white-ball cricket but is yet to make his Test debut. His possible inclusion would give him a major opportunity to enter the red-ball setup as the PCB puts greater focus on form, fitness and long-term planning.
The selectors are expected to begin final consultations from tomorrow, while an initial selection framework has already been prepared based on performances observed during the camp.
Pakistan is expected to depart for the West Indies on July 13 and will play a four-day warm-up match from July 18. The two-match Test series will be held in Trinidad and Tobago, with games scheduled from July 25 to 29 and August 2 to 6.
Pakistan’s England Test tour will then begin on August 19 at Headingley, Leeds, followed by matches at Lord’s on August 27 and Edgbaston, Birmingham, on September 9.
