Rawalpindi Ring Road to Open for Traffic in July

The Rs. 47 billion Rawalpindi Ring Road project is expected to be completed in the first week of July after the completion of asphalt work on the 38 kilometer route, according to project officials.

Deputy Project Director Ashfaq Sulheri told Dawn that construction is in its final stages and the Punjab government will be informed once the project is completed. The provincial government will then announce an inauguration date before opening the road to traffic.

Officials said only finishing work remains, including lane markings, drainage, fencing, landscaping, installation of signboards and road lighting. Lamppost installation is expected to be completed within a month.

The 38.3 kilometer Ring Road stretches from Baanth on G.T. Road to Thalian and includes five interchanges at Baanth, Maira Mohra, Khasala, Kolian Parr and Thalian.

An industrial zone is also planned along the Ring Road corridor, while work on the Thalian interchange is expected to begin after the main project is completed.
